Definition |
A voltage-gated potassium channel protein that has a conserved carboxyl-terminal domain called the Kv2 channel domain. Kv2 channels are known as delayed rectifier channels. Shab-related voltage-potassium channels are involved in maintaining membrane potential and modulating electrical excitability in neurons. In common with other voltage-gated channels, has a domain composition consisting of six transmembrane domains (S1-S6), arranged in a voltage sensor (S1-S4) and pore modules (S5-P-S6), and with both N and C termini on the intracellular side of the membrane. The charged S4 segment with a basic amino acid at every third position confers their voltage sensitivity. In common with Kv3 and Kv4 channels, the tetramerization domain at the N terminus contains a zinc binding site.
